Dunedin is Steep in not only tradition, architecture and history but also steep in that is has the steepest street in the world. SUGGESTED ITINERARY FOR A 7 DAY TOUR.

SUNDAY WELCOME TO DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND.

Accommodation for the next three nights will be at Cromwell Motels. The Motels has superior modern ground floor units that are serviced daily and are adjacent to supermarkets and restaurants and Old Cromwell Town from the Gold Rush Days. Cromwell is situated at the meeting point of the Lake Dunstan into the Gorge of Queenstown. This town is the hub of NZ’s stone fruit and merino wool industries. Interesting town features include a hillside clock, the Old Man Rock, Shaky Bridge and Tucker Hill Lookout.
Tonight we explore and dine in Cromwell.


MONDAY WINE TRAIL TOUR

A continental breakfast is provided daily during our tour.
Today we breakfast between 8:00 and 9:00am. At 11:00am, the Winery Tour will leave in a small bus to explore 3-4 wineries in the Cromwell and Bannockburn area and these tours don't get any more persponalised than being guided by the self professed Mayor of Cromwell himself who knows the owners of the wineries. Central Otago has a host of well-developed wineries and specialises in Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, Rieslings, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blancs.
The bus will return to Cromwell approx 6:00 pm.

TUESDAY ADVENTURE DAY IN QUEENSTOWN

A continental breakfast is provided daily during our tour
An early breakfast today, as our minibus will be departing Cromwell at 8:30am to Queenstown. Queenstown is a vibrant and popular township situated on Lake Wakatipu at the base of the Remarkables. Because of its location, Queenstown offers a vast range of activities (over 400) for everyone – extreme sports, scenic cruises and flights, shopping, sports e.g. golf and sailing, winery trips and guided tours.
Today we challenge you to either "Jump for Joy" on the Canyon Swing(see You Tube Video) or Bungy Jump, take the "Need for Speed" in the Shotover Jet or Lay back and take the Vista up the Gondola.

Meet back at the bus by 5:00pm to then go and dine in Queenstown then we return to Cromwell by 7:30pm to get our gear ready to start the "Rail Trail" the next morning. There are many lovely places to eat in Queenstown for lunch.

WEDNESDAY DAY 1 OF CYCLE

A continental breakfast is provided daily during our tour
After breakfast, we drop off our luggage and pick up our bikes from Trail Journeys in Clyde, departing Alexandra at 8:30am and 'Bike Set Up' and 'Safety Introduction' will be from 9am to 10am. The team covers a distance of 35km today, travelling from Clyde to Omakau. The trail takes us through flat semi-rural landscape of orchards, vineyards and lifestyle blocks and passes through Alexandra (8km), Golloway and Chatto Creek (17km). Between Chatto Creek and Omakau you will see the Dunstan Mountains to the northwest. Amenities are located at Alexandra, Galloway and Chatto Creek. Food is available at Alexandra and Chatto Creek with Chatto Creek offering a sensational Whitebait Sandwich to die for.
Tonight’s accommodation, Blacks Hotel in Ophir, is located 2km from the Rail Trail. This lovely hotel was built in 1898 as a homestead. An a la carte’ menu is available for our dining requirements. After exploring the township there may be other places you wish to dine.

OPTIONAL: 5:30pm: The second of our three 30 minute education specials on health and fitness.
Session 2: We look at the importance of applying session 1 into our lifestyles and spend time developing “Goals” for each of us. We each commit our goals to the rest of the group that we will take home with us in which support, trust and motivation are integral.

THURSDAY DAY 2 OF CYCLE


A continental breakfast is provided daily during our tour.
Travelling from Omakau to Ranfurly, we cover a distance of 57km. Travelling through townships of Lauder (9km), Auripo, Ida Valley, Oturehua (23km), Wedderburn (11km) we will witness spectacular gorge scenery, travel across the trail’s longest bridge, through two tunnels, across a viaduct and climb Rough Ridge Mountain Range. The top of Rough Ridge between Oturehua and Wedderburn marks the highest point of the Rail Trail (618m above sea level). Amenities are located at Lauder, Gorge tunnels, Oturehua and Wedderburn. Food is available at Lauder, Oturehua and Wedderburn.
Tonight’s accommodation, The Hawkdun Lodge, very modern luxurious accomodation with an 8 Seater Spa to rest any weary muscles. There is a wine bar at the local hotel and it caters for all meals. Evening dining can be decided upon on arrival.

FRIDAY DAY 3 OF CYCLE

A continental breakfast is provided daily during our tour. The final leg of the Rail Trail travels from Ranfurly to Middlemarch, a total of 59km.The trail travels through townships of Waipiata, Koknga, Daisybank (21km), Tiroiti, Hyde (11km), Rock and Pillar and Ngapuna. Amenities are available at Waipiata, Daisybank, Prices Tunnel, Hyde and Rock and Pillar. Food can be purchased at Waipaiata and Hyde.
On arriving at Middlemarch, we will return our bikes to Trail Journeys, who will transport the team and luggage to the train by 4.00pm. From there we board a steam train that will transport us through scenic Taieri Gorge to Dunedin(2 hours).
Dunedin’s city centre is compact, with an array of cafes and quality shops. It’s an historic university city that has spread out around a sheltered harbour. When we arrive at the station (Anzac Avenue) the group will decide whether to walk or hire taxis to get to Motel Moray, our accommodation for the next night.
This motel is central to the city of Dunedin, one block from main street - Princess/George Street, very handy to shops, restaurants and bars.

T.E.A.M.S. Dinner: “Together Everyone Achieved Magnificent Success.”
Tonight you are invited to the Luna Bar which overlooks the harbour and beaches of Dunedin , this is where we share our experiences, wine, dine and celebrate our tour success and accomplishment. Travel arrangements to the venue will be by taxi up the hill.

SATURDAY TOUR DE DUNEDIN


A continental breakfast is provided daily during our tour
Dunedin is renowned for its proximity to incredible wildlife - penguins, royal albatross and native New Zealand sea lions. Other Dunedin delights include the magnificent Larnach Castle, Speight’s Brewery, University of Otago, Baldwin Street (the steepest street in the world), Cadbury World, Olveston House, Carisbrook Stadium (House of Pain), Otago Museum and St.Clair and St Kilda Beach.
Explore the city as organised by Inspire Tours in a Chauffered Limousine to see the Seals, Albatross Colony or the unique Yellow Eyed Penguin, pass the Cadbury Factory Tour for you Chocoholics or Speights Brewery where Inspire has great discounts with these tours so please ask if you want like to take a tour in Sunday morning.

THURSDAY WELCOME TO DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND.

Team members may be arriving at Dunedin Airport at approx 3pm on a Pacific Blue flight departing Brisbane Thursday morning. Trail Journeys will meet us at the airport and transport us to Alexandra.
Accommodation for tonight will be at Alexandra Motor Lodge. The Lodge has superior modern ground floor units that are serviced daily and are adjacent to supermarkets and restaurants. Alexandra is situated at the meeting point of the Clutha and Manherikia Rivers. This town is the hub of NZ’s stone fruit and merino wool industries. Interesting town features include a hillside clock, the Old Man Rock, Shaky Bridge and Tucker Hill Lookout.
Tonight we explore and dine at the Monteiths Bar in Alexandra.

FRIDAY DAY 1 OF CYCLE

A continental breakfast is provided daily during our tour.

After breakfast, we drop off our luggage and pick up our bikes from Trail Journeys in Clyde, departing Alexandra at 8:00am and 'Bike Set Up' and 'Safety Introduction' will be from 8:30am to 9:30am. The team covers a distance of 78km today, travelling from Clyde to Wedderburn. The trail takes us through flat semi-rural landscape of orchards, vineyards and lifestyle blocks and passes through Alexandra (8km), Golloway and Chatto Creek (17km). Between Chatto Creek and Omakau (12km) you will see the Dunstan Mountains to the northwest. Amenities are located at Alexandra, Galloway and Chatto Creek. Food is available at Alexandra and Chatto Creek with Chatto Creek offering a sensational Whitebait Sandwich to die for.

From Omakau to Wedderburn, we cover a distance of 41km. Travelling through townships of Lauder (7km), Auripo, Ida Valley(10km), Oturehua (12km), Wedderburn (12km) we will witness spectacular gorge scenery, travel across the trail’s longest bridge, through two tunnels, across a viaduct and climb Rough Ridge Mountain Range. The top of Rough Ridge between Oturehua and Wedderburn marks the highest point of the Rail Trail (618m above sea level). Amenities are located at Lauder, Gorge tunnels, Oturehua and Wedderburn. Food is available at Lauder, Oturehua and Wedderburn

A continental breakfast is provided daily during our tour.                               The final leg of the Rail Trail travels from Wedderburn to Middlemarch, a total of 73.5km.The trail travels through townships of Ranfurly(13km) Waipiata, Koknga, Daisybank (21km), Tiroiti, Hyde (12km), Rock and Pillar, Ngapuna and down the hill to Middlemarch (27.5km). Amenities are available at Waipiata, Daisybank, Prices Tunnel, Hyde and Rock and Pillar. Food can be purchased at Waipaiata and Hyde.
On arriving at Middlemarch, we will return our bikes to Trail Journeys, who will transport the team and luggage to the train by 3:30pm. From there we board a steam train that will transport us through scenic Taieri Gorge to Dunedin(2 hours).
